American Martial arts

American styles of martial arts are truly a mirror image of the people that live here, the styles are most often eclectic, and a breed of there own. When most people think of an American style they would tend to think of American Kenpo, or Tracy’s Kenpo, but there are numerous other styles and ideologies, vast and different like the people that live here.

What I consider American style would be any art developed in America, plain and simple, whether the founder was from Japan, Brazil, or China, if he was in America when he developed the art and began to teach it, it is an American art. Arguably many of the styles could be classified as being of foreign origins, but the modifications, whether truly beneficial or not, are what make them American. Americans seem to be very well adept to modifying things to suit their own needs and their essentials of survival.

Here are some of the arts I would classify as American:

Kenpo

Jeet Kune Do

Kasho

Boxing
