Jeet Kune Do

The rough translation of Jeet kune Do would be: Jeet = intercepting, Kune = Fist, and Do = way, thus making Jeet Kune Do, The Way of the Intercepting Fist.

Jeet Kune Do is a philosophy based combat art, it is a concept of ideas and strategies for physical combat against an opponent who is usually an advanced practitioner of some form of a fighting art. It is not a basic self defense art (although a practitioner could use it for self defense), but rather a compilation of stratigies, philosophies, and key methods for physical combat.

Jeet Kune Do was founded by Bruce Lee (Lee Jun Fan) and is based upon many arts that he studied, researched, or observed. His practices have always been controversial and will always remain this way, such statements as “the way of no way” and “the style of no style” can be interpreted many ways. His split from the traditional practices of kung fu, and the martial arts in general, his ideas of blending and sculpting the arts to suit the individual, and his way of teaching and sharing the arts made him unique and controversial. He has influenced many and popularized gung fu and other martial arts in the United States and all over the world. His films and books have brought attention to many outstanding concepts and practices. He has practiced and researched with some of the greatest martial artist and has produced followers who skills range more broadly than most martial arts practicioners. I personally believe that there can never be enough said about Bruce Lee, and will try to explain Jeet Kune Do to the best of my abilities.
